The intent of the Inutek.net Fair Usage Policy is to ensure all Inutek customers have access to a quality Internet service. Inutek will monitor and regulate bandwidth usage by individual customers to ensure the service is available to all customers.

For each Inutek service plan there is a data transfer allowance that defines the total amount of data that may be downloaded from the Internet or uploaded to the Internet over a rolling 7-day period. Customers who exceed their data transfer allowance within a 7-day period will be temporarily limited in their data transfer rate until the data transfer falls below their plan's reduced data transfer allowance as defined below. Intermittent high transfer amounts will not immediately cause a reduction in data transfer rates since the total throughput is monitored over a 7-day period. It is the amount of bandwidth transmitted over any 7-day period that is evaluated for fair usage and not the individual spikes in usage.

Customers can think of the allowance in terms of, 'how much data have I downloaded or uploaded to the internet over the last 7 day?' If the answer to that question is an amount equal to or less than the data transfer allowance, then the speed of the service remains at the speed of the service plan. If the answer to that questions is, 'I'm over my allowance,' then the customer will experience a slower speed for their service. At the slower speed web browsing and email will still work fine, but downloading large files, program updates, movies, or music will be difficult and time consuming. Slow speeds will continue until usage is back in line with the service plan.

The best way to keep Internet speeds consistent is to monitor total usage and, if speeds do drop, delay downloading large files until the speed returns to the service plan level.

The tables below show the data transfer allowances by Inutek service plan, the reduced data transfer rates if allowances are exceeded in the rolling 7-day period, and the reduced data transfer allowance that must be met before the plan data transfer allowance is restored.
